We don’t allow users to share content that promotes hatred of or incites violence against a person or group based on their membership or perceived membership in a protected group. Protected groups are identified by shared characteristics, including race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, impairment, or any other characteristic(s) associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization. Promoting hatred or violence can come in many forms, including direct attacks, threats, or degrading or dehumanizing content.

Some examples of content prohibited under this policy are:

  • Inciting violence against a person or group based on their membership or perceived membership in a protected group such as by glorifying or calling for them to be killed or injured;
  • Dehumanizing a person or group based on their membership or perceived membership in a protected group by comparing them to or categorizing them as animals, insects, pests, disease, or any other non-human entity;
  • Praise for or glorification of violence against a person or group based on their membership or perceived membership in a protected group;
  • Denial or minimization of well-documented violent events or victimhood connected to or based on a person or group’s membership or perceived membership in a protected group;
  • Use of racial, ethnic, or religious slurs or stereotypes which are used to promote hatred against a person or group based on their membership or perceived membership in a protected group.

We encourage our users and third parties to report instances where Dropbox is used to share hateful content. Our team promptly reviews reported links and takes appropriate action under our policies, which may include disabling access to content and preventing further sharing. Users who repeatedly violate this policy may have their accounts terminated.
